Vandalism Reporting
If you witness vandalism taking place, please call 911.
During the summer months, vandalism tends to rise in parks and playgrounds in many communities, and unfortunately, Vernon Hills is not immune to this trend. This behavior is not only sad and disturbing, but is costing the District time, labor, materials, equipment repair/replacement, clean-up, reporting, etc. It is also pulling valuable staff time away from improvements/projects that are planned. When we say “the District,” in reality, we are referring to “you,” the taxpayer, that is paying the bill for this vandalism.
Vandalism to our parks and playgrounds will not be tolerated and the District will take every necessary legal action to recoup any damages associated with such behavior. Vandalism in our parks takes up countless labor hours to fix or repair, it costs money to replace equipment, and it may cause certain amenities such as bathrooms to be closed for periods of time. Vandals that are caught will be required to make restitution to the Park District.
The Vernon Hills Park District is asking for your help in identifying the suspects responsible for these crimes. Please report any leads or suspect names that you may have to Detective Lemmer of the Vernon Hills Police Department at (847) 247-8156.
There is a strong trend of unaccompanied minors that tend to cause this damage, and we encourage parents to talk with their children about the impact that has on the community and the legal repercussions that could be associated with this behavior. Please help us keep our parks beautiful, functional, and safe.
